A Change Has Done Me Good…Again

It wasn’t too long ago, January to be exact, that I found myself starting a new job. I had spent the previous 4 years working for a media buying agency, which was about 2 years too long. My boss was unrealistic, demanding and CRAZY and I longed to find a job where I felt fulfilled and appreciated. On a whim I applied for a position as a web marketing assistant at a local agency. I had no experience but I had charm and they were willing to train, so what did I have to lose? I got the job. The first few months were great. My boss was someone I knew I would learn a lot from and I quickly found a new BFF. Fast forward a few months, it’s now May, and my boss informs the BFF and I that he is taking another position (insert sad face here.) But that his new company is hiring (insert contemplative face here.) Not wanting to jump ship immediately I let the former boss fill out the new company first. Plus I didn’t want to commute to Provo.

Good news though.

Things went downhill at the agency after he left. That’s not the good news, but it’s leading somewhere. And as luck would have it the old boss’ new company moved closer AND were still hiring. I got the job. And now my old boss is my new boss and all is right with the world. I miss out on bagel Friday and having popcorn:30 with the BFF, but the new job took me white water river rafting. Not bad.

More good news.

My new job requires that I blog on the company website about once a month. It will mostly be about internet marketing and SEO strategies, since duh, that’s what I do. But if you’re into that kind of thing or just want to see what I do when I’m not saving the world read my first post and let me know what you think.

A Change Has Done Me Good!

I started my new job last Monday and after only a week the decision to leave my old job, for one that pays me a lot less, continues to feel like the right one. For those of you who weren’t aware I had even changed jobs, I am now working as a web marketer for an ad agency downtown. This is new territory for me, but I am learning a lot and feel the skills I am learning will be a great asset to me in the future. Who knows, with all the SEO and social media skills Mr. S is also exploring with his internship maybe one day we can start our own business.

Top things I love about the new job:

1. Bagel Fridays- This is our weekly staff meeting and although we had muffins this week it is nice to be in a meeting where only good news is shared.

2. My sweet 24-inch Mac.

3. An office where the IT guy actually knows how to fix a computer problem.

4. Toilets that flush, an actual breakroom, and a receptionist to cover the phone during lunch.

5. Wearing jeans everday if I want.

6. Riding an elevator to the office.

7. Having actual work to do and feeling like I am contributing to something of real value, instead of made-up busy work.

I miss my peeps at the old place and know we will stay in touch, but in this case the grass really is greener on the other side.
