She Found It!

Last year I wrote my mom a birthday post. I wrote a list of some of the great things she has taught me, and I may or may not have gotten a little emotional while writing it. That’s how I roll. In that post I alluded to my mom’s tech savviness:

Finding the link to my new blog is going to take at least another 6 months. And then finding this particular post…well, that could take years!

Well, wouldn’t you know, I received a call from my mom the other night telling me she had read my blog and by some gift from God (or WordPress) she found that particular post. Only took 15 months. She enjoyed it so much she printed off a copy, which was probably a good idea if she ever wants to read it again. Looks like I have only further cemented my status as the favorite child.

SEO Lessons On The Playground

While I was away in Vegas this past weekend (more on that to come) my latest blog for work was published and now I’m sharing it with you. Bet you didn’t know so much of what you learned in kindergarten could be applied to search engine optimization.

A Change Has Done Me Good…Again

It wasn’t too long ago, January to be exact, that I found myself starting a new job. I had spent the previous 4 years working for a media buying agency, which was about 2 years too long. My boss was unrealistic, demanding and CRAZY and I longed to find a job where I felt fulfilled and appreciated. On a whim I applied for a position as a web marketing assistant at a local agency. I had no experience but I had charm and they were willing to train, so what did I have to lose? I got the job. The first few months were great. My boss was someone I knew I would learn a lot from and I quickly found a new BFF. Fast forward a few months, it’s now May, and my boss informs the BFF and I that he is taking another position (insert sad face here.) But that his new company is hiring (insert contemplative face here.) Not wanting to jump ship immediately I let the former boss fill out the new company first. Plus I didn’t want to commute to Provo.

Good news though.

Things went downhill at the agency after he left. That’s not the good news, but it’s leading somewhere. And as luck would have it the old boss’ new company moved closer AND were still hiring. I got the job. And now my old boss is my new boss and all is right with the world. I miss out on bagel Friday and having popcorn:30 with the BFF, but the new job took me white water river rafting. Not bad.

More good news.

My new job requires that I blog on the company website about once a month. It will mostly be about internet marketing and SEO strategies, since duh, that’s what I do. But if you’re into that kind of thing or just want to see what I do when I’m not saving the world read my first post and let me know what you think.

A Letter To My Blog

Dear Blog,

When we first started our journey together I had high hopes. I had a goal to write, write and write some more. There would be humor, sarcasm, frustration, dreams. All packaged into a fun blog (you!) that would hopefully evolve into something more.

And then August came.

During the past month I have let you down. I have let your fans down. I have let the blogosphere down. And I have let myself down. It’s not you. It’s totally me! Instead of just writing, I have let a few weeks of writer’s block get in the way of something that could be very special. And as the days have gone by it has been that much harder to reach out to you.

I came up with plenty of excuses.

  • I’m adjusting to the new job.
  • I’m too busy enjoying the last weeks of summer.
  • My DVR hasn’t gotten my attention, why should you? (Project Runway, I will find some time for you soon.)
  • I’m washing my hair.

But we have a good thing going, and I know we can be even better. So today I recommit myself to you. I hope you will accept my sincere apology. Because if you don’t, the fall TV season is only weeks away and soon the DVR will need more time than I have to give.

Love, Me

Pamper Me Please!

The Sego Lily Day Spa is looking for a blogger and I can think of no reason why it shouldn’t be me. I like being pampered. I would like to be pampered more. All I have to do is write a blog about why I should win and the spa will narrow it down to one lucky winner.

#1-You may notice that this is my first entry on this blog. Though I have another blog I write on more casually I wanted to save the unveiling of my new site for this contest. Are you reading this Sego Lily? That’s how important this contest is to me.

#2-I am still considered a newlywed and you would think that I get plenty of pampering at home. Mr. S is wonderful and shows his love in many ways but when it comes to rubbing my tired feet or giving me a massage, he does it for one reason and one reason only. I don’t think I need to spell it out for you. Speaking of Mr. S…

#3.-My husband is still in school, which means we are living on a budget. He would love to treat me to such indulgences and winning this contest would really put his mind at ease. Just knowing I was receiving the life he wants for me would surely result in less stress and better grades.

#4-Luxury agrees with me. I’m happier, more productive and a lot nicer to strangers after a spa treatment.

#5- I’m a little bit selfish, which I think is a requirement for winning this contest. Selfless people never give in to their desire to spoil themselves for one afternoon. I really don’t think Sego Lily wants an amateur writing for them.

The deadline for the blogger contest is fast approaching, but there is still time for you to enter. You probably won’t beat me, but it doesn’t hurt to try.

I’m blogging, I’m a blogger…I blogged!!

It has been a long time coming but I am happy to announce that I have officially started a blog!! I kept telling myself that I would start once I got married to keep everyone up to date on life as an “us” and 2 months later I am finally achieving that goal. I have actually been working on this for a week or so now, finding a background I was happy with, tweaking all to my specifications. The perfectionist in me wanted it to look just right, though I expect my efforts will not matter seeing how at the end of the day, a blog is a blog is a blog. But on to more important things…

IMG_1532Our new life officially began on August 9, 2008. We had a beautiful ceremony in the Bountiful LDS Temple followed by an evening reception at the Gallivan Center. For those of you who were able to make it..thank you. Official thank you’s are coming soon, but according to wedding etiquette I believe I have up to a year to send them all out. I don’t plan on waiting that long since it might get confusing soon as to whether you are receiving a Christmas card or a thank you note! For those of you who weren’t able to come…boy, did you miss out!! There was dancing, ice cream and fun for all. I wouldn’t have changed a thing and I think that is exactly how it should be. Mr. S and I spent a week in Jamaica (with our own butler!) at a Sandals Resort in Ocho Rios. All inclusive is the way to go…we went scuba diving multiple times, ate more than we should have, visited Dunns River Falls, and lived it up on the beach. I even got Mr. S to ride a horse. We came home with great memories and a great tan. The memories are still alive in our minds and in pictures but sadly the tan has faded. IMG_1550Our last night Mr. S arranged a special candlelight dinner on the beach…how romantic! It was a great way to say goodbye to a wonderful week and a great way to say hello to our new life together.

Since the honeymoon we are settling into life. Mr. S is in his final year of school at the University of Utah, and just started an internship at BlackBottoms cycling wear. I am still working at Keystone Media as a media buyer but looking to spread my wings. Anyone know of any good jobs in the media/public relations/marketing world? We are loving life together and I look forward to keeping you all up date on our “Happily Ever After.”
