Bigger is Better

I have worn either glasses or contacts since the third grade.  I have never been super careful with my contacts and usually would wear them longer than recommended. One time even ending up with an ulcer on my cornea. That was not a fun time.

On Wednesday I took the plunge and decided to have lasik surgery done. Thanks TLC Laser Eye Center. No more contact solution, no more glasses, and definitely no more waking up in the middle of the night and squinting so hard it hurts to see how many hours of sleep my alarm clock says I have left. It has been a real treat. But the best part of having surgery? People want to take care of you and buy you gifts. Sure there is no hospital stay, and the 20 minute procedure probably doesn’t warrant a balloon bouquet or flowers, but technically I did still have surgery and deserve a little something. Or in this case a BIG something. My girl Sarah didn’t disappoint. I’m usually partial to things in miniature because of the whole adorableness factor. But a 2 lb Rice Krispie treat is better than I could ever have imagined.

What Color is Your Heaven?

I teach the 4-5 year old primary class at my church. They are a fun and lively group and occasionally something I say actually sinks in. I’m used to getting random comments to questions and really having to coach them to say something that even remotely resembles the answer I am looking for. The more common response is “I had chicken wings for dinner” or maybe something that happened at home that I’m sure their parents don’t want me to know about. If you have ever been around a small child you have an idea what I’m talking about.

Today I was talking to them about Heaven and what they think it is like. I asked them if they think we we all have wings and just fly around like angels. They laughed at that and then informed me what Heaven is really like.

C: “I bet it is all blue.”

F: “I bet it is peach. Even though my favorite color is pink.”

Whatever the color, I hope they all make it there. And I hope they serve chicken wings.

Facebook is the New Botox

Last week I opened up my Facebook account to find this message from my friend, Sarah:

That put a big smile on my face. And since smiling makes a person look younger and more attractive, I’m going to skip expensive procedures to achieve the same results. Afterall, I’m WAY hotter.

Flip Flop Challenge: Week 3…and Other Stuff

After 3 weeks of doing this little contest I am finally seeing some results. Lost a pound. The workouts were nothing to write home about, but I do think I did better as far as the amount of sweets I consumed. Also just found out that my old trainer is in town for a month and teaching a 3-day women’s bootcamp. He has graciously offered to let me come and take it, free of charge. The unfortunate thing is class starts at 5:45…a.m!

I also passed my motorcycle safety class this past weekend. Mr. S is very proud but I think that means he is excited we can start going on some rides together. I still have a long way to go before I feel completely comfortable, but that only comes with time. I named my bike Cherry Pie, and by doing so I know she will take better care of me as we travel the open road.

In puppy news we no longer need to choose between the adorable pups born just 3 weeks ago. Their mother made that decision for us when she rolled on top of one of her sons killing him. It is a sad turn of events but that must mean the brown one is meant for us. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the best son survived.

How About An Oreo To Go With That Shake?

oreo-strawberry-milkshake-8x6If I could live on oreos and milk without all the calories I probably would. I guess it wouldn’t be so bad. The oreo is technically a “sandwich” and all that milk would do my body good. And the variety of choices, oh the variety! Every winter I look forward to seeing the box of white chocolate covered oreos smiling back at me as I walk down the cookie aisle. I can’t help but buy a box, or ten. This year, Santa Claus (yes, he does exist) even put a box in my stocking. And the Double Delight Mint. Refreshing and oh so satisfying.

Well, Nabisco has done it again. This time in the form of a classic, diner dessert. Oreos with Strawberry Milkshake Creme. I was a little skeptical they may not have captured the taste of a real milkshake. I know my ice cream. But they nailed it! They are only around for a limited time and you can’t have mine.  So get your own. But if you need a gift idea my birthday is only 53 short days away.

Announcing the Arrival of Bret Michaels

The day I have been waiting for finally came. My new puppy has arrived! Sadly, he is not at my house yet but that will happen soon enough. And though he was born on Cinco De Mayo, I am sticking to my original plan and naming him Bret Michaels…with a small twist. Mr. S is not too keen on the idea of a dog named after a rock star. Not sure why, something to do with the embarrassment he may face when calling out to our new addition in public. So we have agreed on Kingston Bret Michaels. We spent our honeymoon in Jamaica so we thought it was a nice homage. You may all have a moment to gag over my sentimental nature. Done? Good.

He will be referred to as just Kingston in most circles, but I will always think of him as my own rock of love. And this way Mr. S can keep his dignity.

We will make the drive to Idaho to pick Kingston out in a couple of weeks. It is between the two cuties above. I would take them both if I could. Which one do you think I should choose?

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

For the last 3 years, Mr. S has been growing his hair out. Partly because he could, but the eventual plan was to always donate it to Locks of Love. Mr. S’ friend, April, who is a stylist in San Diego happened to be in town this weekend so it was off with his hair.
So now with 4 fresh ponytails to send off to the charity…
hair2I introduce the new Mr. S. I like what I see. Meow!
As for the pornstache he is sporting. That’s temporary. He just likes to find new ways to provoke me. It usually works but I love him anyway.hair3
