Some People Can Fall Asleep Anywhere

I don’t know why this is where he chooses to take a nap or how this position can even be comfortable, but Kingston is often found on the back of the couch dreaming of catching squirrels.

Something For Them And Something For You

Picture 19My friend Mary has been spending the last couple of years dabbling in jewelry making and during that time I have been one of her favorite customers. Earrings are one accessory I can’t leave home without and thanks to Mary I always have a pair to coordinate with my outfit. I even had Mary make custom jewelry for my wedding day, complete with bracelets for my sisters and nieces.

I imagine one day her jewelry will end up in a celebrity swag bag but for now she is offering her jewelry to the masses via her Etsy shop. This is your chance to have some hand-made jewelry of your own. Right now you can get a free pair of earrings with any $25 purchase. Perfect for the holidays. It’s the best kind of gift giving. You get to feel that warm gooey feeling by giving to others and get a little something extra for yourself.

Sure It’s Cliche But I’m Thankful

First off, Happy Thanksgiving! Picture 9

Right now I am probably taking a nap while I recover from my food hangover. But because it’s Thanksgiving and because I can do two things at once I am going to share my list of things I am thankful for this year.

  1. My small family: Mr. S and Kingston, and my large family: parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and the chaos that comes with it.
  2. Glee one liners. It’s no secret that I am a gleek and lines like, “Hairography is cool epilepsy” and “Makeovers are my crack” only cements my enthusiasm for this show. Not to mention the great musical numbers.
  3. One new job that led me to my current new job. Love my coworkers, love my boss, and love the orange walls.
  4. Two great dance classes that have made teaching fun again.
  5. Surviving my first year as a licensed motorcyclist without any incident. Not even a close call.
  6. Yoplait Strawberry Orange Sunrise
  7. Mr.S’ college graduation
  8. NY Yankees: World Series Champions
  9. A hubby willing to help out with all the techie stuff around the house.
  10. A roof over our heads, food to eat, health and overall happiness.

Hope your holiday is fantastic and that you are taking some time to think about what you are thankful for. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for another piece of pie.

Team Derek And Why I’m Not Team Edward Or Jacob

You’re probably aware that a much anticipated movie opened this weekend. A movie about vampires and werewolves and the girl who complicates things for everyone. Yeah, I’ve read the books. But if it hadn’t been for a recent trip to Vegas I’m not sure I would have finished them. no-new-moonI read Twilight with an open mind and although the book was clearly written for adolescent girls in all its cheesiness, I enjoyed it well enough. I think I finished it within a week. Then came New Moon. That was a hard one to get through, what with Bella and all her whining and pining for a guy that glitters in the sun. (Did you just throw up a little in your mouth too?) From the previews it looks like the movie was smart to focus on the last 100 or so pages and best part of the book. The third installment got better but then enter Breaking Dawn, the worst of them all. Just when I thought I might be able to lean more toward Team Jacob, Bella had to give birth to the mutant baby that almost killed her and Jacob had to fall in love, no wait, “imprint” on her. Whatever the heck that means. So since I have no place in my heart for a glittery vampire nor for a teenage werewolf that later becomes a pedophile, I am sticking to the man who never lets me down-Derek Jeter. Mr S. is okay with my celebrity crush because he knows at the end of the day it’s never going to amount to anything and I will always come home to him. But at least he is real AND an adult. Go Team Derek!!

Super Gleek

So in case you haven’t heard, FOX has a new comedy all about life in the lower rungs of the Glee Club. And in case you missed last night’s premiere you may not know that it is my new favorite show on television. I was born to be on this show. They sing, they dance, they are overly dramatic. Hello! Imitate my life much?

Since they cast it without my knowledge I am going to have to settle on watching it like the rest of you. But that won’t stop me from exhibiting my inner gleek and performing my favorite songs for Mr. S. around the house. One of which is the cover they did of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin.” I couldn’t find a video version so this will have to do.

And if you find yourself singing along, I am in need of backup singers. Contact me for audition information.

A Letter To My Blog

Dear Blog,

When we first started our journey together I had high hopes. I had a goal to write, write and write some more. There would be humor, sarcasm, frustration, dreams. All packaged into a fun blog (you!) that would hopefully evolve into something more.

And then August came.

During the past month I have let you down. I have let your fans down. I have let the blogosphere down. And I have let myself down. It’s not you. It’s totally me! Instead of just writing, I have let a few weeks of writer’s block get in the way of something that could be very special. And as the days have gone by it has been that much harder to reach out to you.

I came up with plenty of excuses.

  • I’m adjusting to the new job.
  • I’m too busy enjoying the last weeks of summer.
  • My DVR hasn’t gotten my attention, why should you? (Project Runway, I will find some time for you soon.)
  • I’m washing my hair.

But we have a good thing going, and I know we can be even better. So today I recommit myself to you. I hope you will accept my sincere apology. Because if you don’t, the fall TV season is only weeks away and soon the DVR will need more time than I have to give.

Love, Me

A Kind Of, Maybe, Indirect Tribute to Michael

I’m pretty sure I was the only person not watching, twittering, listening, or streaming the funeral of Michael Jackson yesterday. Do you want to know why? Because I don’t care. I haven’t cared since around the mid-90′s. He was the King of Pop. Past tense. Modern day Michael was just plain scary.

My favorite MJ era, and the one I choose to keep lodged in my memory, is that of the 80′s. Which got me thinking about all the other things I loved about the 8o’s. A few have made comebacks (unlike Michael) but this list is for the others still waiting to have their second chance at glory.

1. Day to Night Barbie- This girl is the ultimate career girl who knew how to balance her business and personal life, thanks to a skirt that could be turned inside out for a night on the town.

2. Barrel of Monkeys- One of my favorite presents I received for my 6th birthday, and inspiration for one of my favorite Toy Story outtakes.

3. Poochie- I had the Poochie Stamper and marked my belongings with pride.

4. Choose Your Own Adventure Books- Got to love books putting kids in charge. Genius.

5. Rose Petal- Watched the cartoon every Saturday morning, dressed in my Rose Petal nightgown.

And speaking of cartoons…

6. Saturday morning cartoons of the 80′s- Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Muppet Babies, Snorks, and the Wuzzles.

It’s never too late to bring more of my favorites back.
